Sam:

Alright. Well, welcome back to Moo Moo's World. It's been a while, hasn't it been? It's been way too long.

Matthew:

It's been

Sam:

a long, long time. You know, we can't really cover all of the things that Apple has released since the last time the podcast.

Matthew:

It has been since 09/05/2021.

Sam:

Oh my gosh. It's been almost a year, Moo. Yeah. Okay, so let's not dwell on how long it's been. Let's talk about some really, really, really cool new features that Apple has released.

Sam:

So when was the last big Apple announcement?

Matthew:

Like this month, this year of June.

Sam:

So it was in June. And what did they release? What were the things that they

Matthew:

iOS 16.

Sam:

IOS 16.

Matthew:

No. Not iPhone s 16.

Sam:

Okay. And so what was so special about this

Matthew:

There's a new lock screen. Let me just show you this. Let me grab out my phone.

Sam:

Okay.

Matthew:

Alright. Let me just share my phone screen. Uh-oh.

Sam:

We've got a we've got work going on in the background. You hear all that noise?

Matthew:

Yeah. I know.

Sam:

Okay. Well, I hope that will go. Alright. So iOS 16. IOS is the is short for what?

Sam:

The operating system, and it's the mobile operating system. Right? It's the operating system for the phone. Do I have that correct?

Matthew:

Unable to connect. There it is. I got it connected.

Sam:

Okay. It says Matthew Zurowell has started screen sharing, but I don't see anything that you're sharing.

Matthew:

Right. So here it is.

Sam:

Alright. Well, you You

Matthew:

can it. You can customize it.

Sam:

I don't see anything, Moo Moo

Matthew:

Moo Moo Look at this. You can customize it.

Sam:

I know, but I don't see anything on my screen. You're not sharing anything for the viewers. No. No, sir. It says Matthew Zurawel has started screen sharing.

Sam:

Oops. I just let everybody know your name.

Matthew:

You're gonna have to restart.

Sam:

No. You're just gonna have to edit that out. Are we still recording? Yeah. Okay.

Sam:

So your screen sharing is not working. What are you trying to share with us?

Matthew:

So you can customize lock screen. Like, look at this. I don't know. Me just I don't know my background.

Sam:

Come on, man.

Matthew:

Alright. So I'm on the phone, and look at this. You can customize the background. So you just hold it, or you could also you could also let me go to settings real quick. You could also see the menu by going in settings.

Sam:

Uh-huh.

Matthew:

General. Actually, wallpaper.

Sam:

Then Hold up.

Matthew:

Add new wallpaper, and I got this.

Sam:

But now how is that any different than what was there what were your options before? Didn't you always have the ability to sort of change your wallpaper

Matthew:

Well, you can add custom stuff and even widgets to yours. So I'm gonna add widgets right over here.

Sam:

Now what are widgets?

Matthew:

Look. I can add a widget right here. These are introduced and are listed to you, man.

Sam:

Hey, Moo. You're not listening. You're not listening. Now I ask you a question. What is a widget?

Sam:

So Moo, you're gonna have to do some video editing here. Okay? And you've got plenty of video editing software. In five Okay. So you do it in five minutes.

Sam:

So listen. Alright. Explain to me what a widget is. I'm not I'm not too sure what that means. That's exactly I'm saying that you And why listen.

Sam:

Listen. Why would I want to put a widget on my home screen?

Matthew:

So you can know what the time is without going to your cloud app or knowing what the weather is without going to your weather app.

Sam:

Oh, so literally, like, when you look at your home screen, it'll just tell you what the weather is?

Matthew:

Mhmm. Yeah.

Sam:

That's that's cool. So it's just kinda always there.

Matthew:

And now you can add it to your lock screen.

Sam:

Show me. Hold it up high so we can see.

Matthew:

So you just click on add new wallpaper or just Mhmm. Pull down on the lock screen, and then you click on add new wallpaper, and look at this.

Sam:

Oh, add add add some new wallpaper for us.

Matthew:

I'm gonna add a new wallpaper.

Sam:

Yeah.

Matthew:

So I'm just gonna do apply then. Look at this.

Sam:

Oh, that's

Matthew:

a new widget. I'm just gonna put in this widget right here from the web app. And I can even put batteries in too, so look at this.

Sam:

You can put batteries? What does that do?

Matthew:

Like, it shows your iPhone battery or any other connected accessories like AirPods. Wow. And now I just click on done. Uh-huh. And now once I go to my lock screen, look at this.

Sam:

Very cool. So on the lock screen, if you just touch one of those widgets, it makes that widget work.

Matthew:

No. But it normally does that on the home screen, which I'll show you right now.

Sam:

Okay. Well, go to your lock screen.

Matthew:

I had a fetcher rewards widget up here.

Sam:

Here. I can't see

Matthew:

Look at the seat. It's a virtual watch widget, and when I click it, it goes into the virtual watch app. But, sadly, that's not the case for lock screen.

Sam:

It's not? So what's the point of putting a widget on the lock screen if the widget's not gonna work? I don't quite understand that.

Matthew:

So you can just see the level without going to your app, and we don't need to click on it.

Sam:

Show me how to well, that's the part I'm trying to understand a little bit better, Moo. Show me how that works. So show it up, and then you just tap it.

Matthew:

Oh, it actually does work. It actually does work. I clicked on the web icon, and it's asking me to open web it, and then it did this.

Sam:

Got it. Okay. Well, okay. Show your phone up from your lock screen. K?

Matthew:

That's gonna show our location.

Sam:

Okay. Now touch the widget, and it opens You the gotta face gotta use face ID. Okay. Now show me the app running. Yeah, that's really cool.

Sam:

Now I think that's a pretty convenient feature. Okay. So that was the lock screen. You can change it and you have the ability to put widgets on there, which I think is pretty convenient. Okay.

Sam:

What else?

Matthew:

What else? So you can change cameras now. Like, you can use your iPhone.

Sam:

You can change cameras. Explain that one to us.

Matthew:

So I'm gonna click on video settings and iPhone XR camera, and look at this. Look at this.

Sam:

I can't see it, Matthew. Woah.

Matthew:

Changed the camera.

Sam:

You just changed the how did you do that again? Show me that again. That's really cool.

Matthew:

So I clicked on video settings and then my iPhone's camera and then yeah. And it says on the phone, connect it to MacBook Air. You can

Sam:

Let me me make sure that I understand this. Even though you're on a MacBook Air, you were displaying the video from your phone on your MacBook.

Matthew:

That's that's

Sam:

really cool. So that can be handy when you're on a call, but you want to show video of something else. And by using your mobile device, you've got more freedom to kind of film things that you wouldn't be able to film from your.

Matthew:

One more thing about the.

Sam:

Let me finish. Let me finish. So you're able to film something that you wouldn't be able to film on the camera on your laptop. Is that correct?

Matthew:

Yeah. So I just use my phone.

Sam:

Really cool. Okay. Go ahead.

Matthew:

One more thing about lock screen. You can change the font of the date and time, which is what I did on another one. Please hold on.

Sam:

Now how do you do that?

Matthew:

Let me just hold down on my box screen. It's not working. I'll just do it from settings.

Sam:

Just hold okay. Yeah. I think you gotta do that first.

Matthew:

Wallpaper, or you can also click on customize right here. Customize your own wallpaper. And then I click on here and then look at this. Look at this. Like, actually changed the font.

Sam:

Man, that's really cool. Okay. What else, bud?

Matthew:

You can download the iOS 16 public beta now. I'll link in the description.

Sam:

Yeah? Yeah.

Matthew:

Because it's available now.

Sam:

It is available. Okay. What else?

Matthew:

You can change the color too, which I

Sam:

think The color?

Matthew:

Color of what? I the date and time. Look. See? Pretty cool one.

Matthew:

Change the color from my How are you? So, like, lay

Sam:

How do you So there's a

Matthew:

so there's, like, a menu below the top. Then the the fonts where you just change the color. I changed mine, like, the nail because it looks cool.

Sam:

I think it does look cool. I'm gonna have to I'm gonna have to fiddle with that. That's really cool. Alright. What else?

Matthew:

Alright. Next. You can now edit a message for up to fifteen minutes after sending it.

Sam:

Wait. What now?

Matthew:

You can edit your message. So, like, let me show you this. Let me show you this.

Sam:

You can edit a text?

Matthew:

Yeah. You can edit a text. No

Sam:

way.

Matthew:

Yeah. Like

Sam:

So I can send you a text, and let's say

Matthew:

We both have to be on iOS 16. Otherwise, it won't work.

Sam:

Okay. So it has to be on iOS 16.

Matthew:

Yeah. Yeah.

Sam:

But does the does the other phone have to be on iOS 16?

Matthew:

Yes. Alright. So let me just send a text real quick.

Sam:

Okay. Who are you sending it to?

Matthew:

Myself. Well And then

Sam:

it to me.

Matthew:

I hold down on the text message, and then I click on edit, and then I change it.

Sam:

No way.

Matthew:

Pretty cool. Right?

Sam:

That's really cool because

Matthew:

It only works for messages for up to fifteen minutes

Sam:

after that. But but the to be clear, both you and the person that you're sending the message to needs to be on iOS 16. Do I have that correct? Okay. Very cool.

Sam:

Alright. What else?

Matthew:

Feature. It's also in messages, but it's undo send. So you can unsend the message for up to two minutes after sending it.

Sam:

So let show

Matthew:

this again. Let me show you this again. So So I'm gonna go to the text ID. I'm gonna go to the text ID right here.

Sam:

Uh-huh. I can't see because your your arm's in the way.

Matthew:

But I'm holding right here, and then I click on undo send. But they also want to be in iOS 16 and it just went pop.

Sam:

So you mean to tell me that if you send me a text and a minute later you're like, oops, I shouldn't have sent that to my dad, And then you can pull it back. You can pull it back. Okay. Here's what we're gonna do. Well, you send me a text.

Sam:

Okay?

Matthew:

Okay. And I'm gonna do I have iOS 16. So I

Sam:

do have iOS 16. Oh. Oh, don't have iOS 16 yet?

Matthew:

No.

Sam:

Oh, so this is coming out with the full release.

Matthew:

No. It's also in the public beta. So

Sam:

Okay. But when does the when does the full release come out? So this hasn't been released yet.

Matthew:

Like in the fall. Like in the fall and like in September.

Sam:

Okay. So these are things that are coming, not out. You have the beta. Is that correct? Yeah.

Sam:

I have public beta. You have the

Matthew:

And by the way, they did release l 16 public beta too. They beta four. Okay. Alright. Next one.

Sam:

Does now let me ask you this. Is your public beta working out okay? It is.

Matthew:

So then we now have live text and videos.

Sam:

That is Live text and video. What do you what do you mean?

Matthew:

Let me make a look on my phone and show you this. Sure. This is a. And oh, I'm sorry. I finished recording the video.

Matthew:

Oh, that's weird. It's not working.

Sam:

Why not? All the It is working.

Matthew:

Shot. Look. My text. It worked. It worked.

Sam:

It did. It did. So what does that do, Moo Moo Moo?

Matthew:

So it so you can, like, copy and paste the words in the video?

Sam:

Yeah.

Matthew:

I I just copied and pasted this, and I'm gonna click on copy and then paste it into my notes now.

Sam:

Into your notes? Yeah. Okay. That sounds pretty cool.

Matthew:

Alright. Next up, we have Apple Pay Later. So now once you check out with Apple Pay, you can now split your Apple Pay purchase in full equal payments over six weeks.

Sam:

Apple Pay later.

Matthew:

So this is like the Klarna app. This is like the Klarna app, but now Apple Pay had this. But guess what? It's making billion billionaires go broke like Jeff Bezos. I heard this on the news.

Sam:

Okay. Very cool.

Matthew:

Pretty crazy. Right? So Apple is completely bankrupting people now.

Sam:

Apple's bankrupting people? How's that bankrupting people? It helps people.

Matthew:

Because Apple paid it.

Sam:

Actually Well, that that's helpful. If you don't have all the money now, you can pay it later. That's not bankrupting people.

Matthew:

No. I actually heard that on Moo Moo. Do you want me to show you?

Sam:

No. Well, yeah.

Matthew:

I'll show you real quick.

Sam:

I don't think it's a very

Matthew:

fair up real quick.

Sam:

I don't think that's a very fair description.

Matthew:

Let me just get this up real quick.

Sam:

Okay.

Matthew:

Videos. Look. I see it on Bloomberg. I see it on Bloomberg.

Sam:

You see it on Bloomberg. Yeah.

Matthew:

Let me just get up the clip from here so I can show you all this.

Sam:

Okay.

Matthew:

.Com. Alright. I found a video.

Sam:

What do you got? What do you got?

Matthew:

Let shoot. Let me shoot. Shoot screen.

Sam:

Uh-oh. Millionaires. Apple's secretly bankrupting billionaires. Oh, I don't think that's quite accurate. I think that's just a silly old meme.

Sam:

Okay. What else we got? We don't have a whole lot of time here. Matthew, let's go.

Matthew:

We need to talk about the MacBook Air later.

Sam:

Okay. Let's move on to something else, buddy boy. Matthew. Matthew, this isn't good content. Matthew, stop this.

Sam:

Okay. You need to edit this out. This wasn't good content.

Matthew:

What do you mean it's not?

Sam:

It's not good content. It was silent. So you'll need to edit that out.

Matthew:

No. I'm watching a video.

Sam:

I know, but I can't see I can't hear the video. I can't hear it.

Matthew:

Oh.

Sam:

And it's not anything from It shows

Matthew:

the captions right there.

Sam:

Okay. Very cool. All right. Matthew, get this off. Matthew.

Matthew:

Yeah.

Sam:

Get. Okay. Don't you're you're gonna need to delete that segment. That wasn't very informative.

Matthew:

Yeah.

Sam:

Okay. Now

Matthew:

I have to

Sam:

do Alright. We got five more minutes here.

Matthew:

Alright. So they they they released the new MacBook Air, like the MacBook Pro, but with no Mac. With the same camera, like, notch, like Mac the new MacBook

Sam:

Pro. Okay.

Matthew:

Let me show you this real quick.

Sam:

Show me.

Matthew:

I'm gonna put this up on the screen right now. And by the way, m two is already out. So yeah.

Sam:

What do you mean by m two?

Matthew:

The m two chip.

Sam:

Well, what's the m two chip? Tell her what's

Matthew:

Give me one moment. So yeah. So yeah. Let me get to the screen. We have to edit lots of parts out now.

Sam:

Air.

Matthew:

Look at this.

Sam:

Pretty cool. This is the new one.

Matthew:

All new design. M two chip. Supercharged. I could look at this. This will be a Saturday night now, and it has up to eighteen hours of battery life.

Sam:

That seems like a

Matthew:

lot. So you could use it for, like, the full time you're going to Colorado by god.

Sam:

Really?

Matthew:

Yes.

Sam:

Yeah. I guess you're right.

Matthew:

Yeah. Because it takes, like,

Sam:

twelve to

Matthew:

thirteen hours, but look at this big, beautiful, liquid, and retina display. Look at it. They have an advanced camera and audio.

Sam:

So for some context, Matthew,

Matthew:

this It starts at $11.99. Pretty expensive.

Sam:

Okay. Matthew, listen. So for some context

Matthew:

Do Moo. Okay? Because I'll have to cut that segment out.

Sam:

Oops. Sorry. Moo Moo, seems like a pretty powerful chip, is it? Uh-huh. It is?

Sam:

Yeah. How powerful is it?

Matthew:

Like, so powerful. It can go fast like this.

Sam:

That's really fast.

Matthew:

Yeah. It's actually faster than the other one I have right now. It's like So this

Sam:

is the this is the is this the fastest chip they've ever put in a in a MacBook? I have

Matthew:

a young one right now, but

Sam:

Is this is this

Matthew:

just Moo way more faster.

Sam:

Moo is that is that now is that on the the MacBook Pro as well, or is it just on the Air, or is it on all of the laptops now?

Matthew:

No. It's on the MacBook Pro too. And by the way, you're now available to buy the MacBook Air. So

Sam:

yeah. Oh, really? Okay. Alright.

Matthew:

They have done the new MacBook Pro too.

Sam:

You have. They do. Okay. Great. Alright.

Sam:

What else?

Matthew:

And they brought back MagSafe. Yes, that's a classic. Right?

Sam:

Yes. It is. It is. It is. Now I have a question for you.

Sam:

You turn 10 in when? When do you turn 10?

Matthew:

In February.

Sam:

February. Okay.

Matthew:

And we are go and I'm going to Silicon Valley. So

Sam:

You're gonna go to Silicon Valley. This is your birthday present. Right?

Matthew:

Yeah. Wow. So you all can see a video on this channel with me touring Apple HQ.

Sam:

That is going to be amazing.

Matthew:

Well, if you don't allow me to record this, then, yeah, fine.

Sam:

So where are we going to visit for this birthday trip of yours?

Matthew:

Silicon Valley.

Sam:

Okay. But where are we going to visit in Silicon Valley? Facebook.

Matthew:

Yeah. Lots of companies.

Sam:

Who else we gonna are we gonna

Matthew:

record it, then, yeah, I'll just take pictures because I think they'll just allow me to take pictures.

Sam:

I think that's a great idea. Now are we gonna go

Matthew:

into a video.

Sam:

Are we gonna go anywhere else? Are we gonna go to any universities?

Matthew:

Yes. Oh, really? Harvard.

Sam:

But, no, we're not going to Harvard because Harvard's in Boston. Harvard's on the East Coast. But we're gonna go where? Stanford University.

Matthew:

Stanford University. Silicon Valley.

Sam:

Okay.

Matthew:

I'll be recording it with my phone.

Sam:

Okay. Are you gonna drop off an application for admission into the into Stanford University?

Matthew:

Yeah. Hold on. Hold on. Let me edit this second now. Alright.

Matthew:

I'm back. I'm back. I'm back.

Sam:

Okay. Well, we got two more minutes.

Matthew:

Oh, two more minutes.

Sam:

So what do you wanna talk about?

Matthew:

I don't know what else to talk about.

Sam:

Any other features?

Matthew:

No. None that I know of.

Sam:

None that you know of.

Matthew:

Let me go check the list real quick.

Sam:

When you when now look. You're a beta user. So what does Apple ask of you when they allow you to have a beta?

Matthew:

A what?

Sam:

You've got a beta version of the new OS, so the beta beta is a testing version. Right?

Matthew:

What is the public beta?

Sam:

The public beta. So what does that really mean? Public beta.

Matthew:

That the users from the public can get the beta. I think it releases, like, one month after the the the beta, which is June, which launched after d WWDC. But let's talk about CarPlay.

Sam:

CarPlay. Oh, you've been talking

Matthew:

about announcements are coming in late twenty twenty three, but there's next generation of CarPlay.

Sam:

Mhmm.

Matthew:

Like, with deep communication with the vehicle systems.

Sam:

Yeah.

Matthew:

Fueling and driving task gaps, and you can even automatically send messages.

Sam:

Really?

Matthew:

And one more thing is about privacy. Whenever a hacker tries to hack in your phone, there's a new mode called lockdown mode. So all you need to do to access it is privacy and security and click on lockdown mode. It's Apple's way of protecting hackers when yeah. So look at this.

Sam:

Oh, yeah?

Matthew:

I just keep it on the screen so you can read it out, or I'll just read it for you. Locked on mode is an extreme arsenal of protection that should only be used if you believe that you may be personally targeted by a highly sophisticated cyber attack like Pegasus, for example.

Sam:

Okay.

Matthew:

Most people are never targeted about by attacks about this nature, but when it's in lockdown mode, it won't function as it typically does. Like, apps, websites, and features will be strictly limit limited for security, and some experiences will be completely unavailable.

Sam:

Wow. So what what does that mean to you?

Matthew:

That means cactus can't get into my phone.

Sam:

Oh, no. Really?

Matthew:

Yeah. Because Jeff Bezos have has been in a cyber attack before. Well, it has been two minutes.

Sam:

He's been in a cyber attack before?

Matthew:

Yeah. Well, yeah. We'll see you in the next episode. It has been two minutes. We'll see you all next time.

Sam:

Well, Moo, it has been great to get to podcast with you again, and I look forward to podcasting more. So get all this edited and we'll get this out to all your fans.

Matthew:

All right.

Sam:

Have a great day, buddy. Bye,

Matthew:

guys. Bye.
